Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA) 2NA

Improved Shelf Life: EDTA 2NA

Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA) is a chelating agent commonly utilized in cosmetics to stabilize metal ions, including iron, copper, cadmium, and manganese. These metal ions can cause instability and quality issues in cosmetic formulations. EDTA forms stable complexes with these metal ions, preventing them from reacting with other ingredients and extending the shelf life of the product.

Additionally,The EDTA can also function as a preservative, effectively inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi to maintain product freshness and safety.

EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid) is a common chelating agent that is often used in the formulation of antioxidant ingredients in cosmetics. In cosmetics, EDTA can exist in different forms, including disodium EDTA and tetrasodium EDTA. The difference between the two lies mainly in the number of sodium atoms present in the EDTA molecule.

The molecular structure of disodium EDTA and tetrasodium EDTA is the same, consisting of one, two carboxyl groups, and four acid centers forming a complex with sodium atoms. The difference lies in the fact that the tetrasodium EDTA molecule contains four sodium ions, while the disodium EDTA molecule contains only two.

The advantage of tetrasodium EDTA is that it contains more available sodium ions in the formulation, which can further enhance the stability and antioxidant properties of metal ions. Disodium EDTA contains fewer sodium ions and is more suitable for aggressive chelation of metal ions, such as those found in cosmetics containing cadmium, lead, and copper. Therefore, when using EDTA, factors to consider include the type of present in the cosmetic and the required strength of chelation in order to choose the appropriate form of EDTA.
